Lexington seminary names 1st woman president

From The Chicago Tribune-

The Lexington Theological Seminary has selected its first woman president in the 146-year history of the institution.

The school's board of trustees on Thursday picked Charisse Gillett as the seminary's 17th president. Gillett also becomes the first African-American to hold the top post at the seminary.

Her selection follows the recent naming of the Rev. Canon Carole L. Wade to be the first female dean and rector at Lexington's Christ Church Episcopal Cathedral.

Gillett told The Lexington Herald-Leader news of her selection proved to be an emotional moment and she's excited about the seminary's future.

Gillett, who holds a doctorate in education from Northern Illinois University, had been the seminary's vice president for administration and special projects since February 2010.
