Archbishop of Canterbury visits Jamaica

The Archbishop of Canterbury is scheduled to arrive in Jamaica this afternoon for his first official visit to the island.

The Right Reverend Rowan Williams is expected to arrive at the Norman Manley International Airport approximately 3:35 p.m.

The Archbishop, who is the head of the worldwide family of 80 million Anglican and Episcopal members, will be presiding over the 14th meeting of the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC).

The event takes place from May 2-12 at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.

About 150 delegates, including laity and clergy from 164 nations, will participate in the meetings.

The ACC meets every three years and its current policy is to meet in different parts of the world.

This is the council’s second meeting in the Caribbean since delegates gathered for the third ACC meeting in Trinidad in 1976.
