Uganda: Homosexuals Meet at Entebbe Hotel

From "AllAfrica"-

HOMOSEXUALS have held a three-day workshop on human rights at the Imperial Resort Beach Hotel in Entebbe.

The workshop attracted over 20 homosexuals. It was also attended by pro-gay retired Anglican Bishop Dr. Christopher Ssenyonjo.

Ssenyonjo, who is a counsellor on marriage and HIV/AIDS, said many people misunderstood human sexuality.

He added that he counsels all people, including the sex minority, but was often attacked because he did not discriminate.

"I try to do as Jesus told us, to welcome everybody. I want to listen to the homosexuals to know who they are," he said.

A man, who declined to mention his name, told journalists that he was a facilitator from Kenya.

In 2002, the then Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Mpalanyi Nkoyooyo, suspended Ssenyonjo because of his support for homosexuality.

In 2004, Archbishop Luke Orombi wrote to Ssenyonjo informing him that he was "no longer entitled to wear the robes of a deacon, priest, or bishop in the Church of Uganda".

He was later excommunicated.
