Zambia: Anglicans Disown Partisan Clergy

From Zambia-

THE Anglican Church has disowned priests who make statements that do not align with the Church's stance of not engaging in partisan politics or uttering antagonistic statements.

And the Church has launched an electoral process training programme for its clergy in Zambia in view of the forthcoming general elections.

Anglican Province of Central Africa acting Secretary William Muchombo said the Church's priests should remain non-partisan and uphold the integrity of the Church.

Bishop Muchombo said the Church did not support any political party but was free to speak on various issues affecting its flock.

He said in an interview that the Church was clear on what conduct it expected from its clergy before, during and after the elections.

Bishop Muchombo said Anglican priests should not be partisan in their conduct and should not make antagonistic statements that bordered on taking sides with any political party.
