Empty Bowls raises funds

From Ohio-

Locals gathered at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Saturday in Marietta for the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser.

Pottery from professional potters as well as local children lined the tables.

Organizer Dana Singer talked about this year's turnout as well as last year's success.

"Last year we made over $300 and we're expecting a similar turnout this year," Singer said.

Local educator Joyce Tharp has made bringing her classes' bowls an annual tradition.

"I think this is the eighth year we've attended," Tharp said. "I think it's good to teach them about doing things for the community and they really enjoy it."

Kristen Stone, another local teacher, brings a group of students every year to the luncheon.
