Love language: Bishop Curry speaks at St. Anne’s

From Western Kansas-

Every pew was filled at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in McPherson as the Most Reverend Michael Curry, who is the Presiding Bishop and Primate of the Episcopal Church of the United States and who recently delivered the sermon at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, served as the guest preacher on Dec. 2.

Bishop Curry spoke to the congregation about the beginning of the Advent season and how it marks three comings — that of Jesus’ birth, his coming into the heart of a person and also his future return.
″(Jesus) gave his life willingly to show us this is what love does,” Curry said.

Curry encouraged the crowd to follow Jesus’ example and be motivated by love to help others.

Episcopal leader takes time for tiny congregation

From Western Kansas-

Sunlight washed across the living room of the A-frame house Sunday morning.

The savory aroma of a simmering pork roast added to the festive atmosphere as a small group sang and prayed together. Some sat on folding chairs; others sat shoulder-to-shoulder on a sofa.

On this sleepy morning a passerby on Kingman Avenue would have no idea worshiping inside the home was the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church Katharine Jefferts Schori.

New theological school launched by 4 Midwestern dioceses

From ACNS-

Diocese of Kansas by Melodie Woerman- Class is now in session for the Bishop Kemper School for Ministry, the newly created school that provides theological education to students from the dioceses of Kansas, West Missouri, Nebraska and Western Kansas. The school’s first group of students, 35 people from all four dioceses, met for the first time Aug. 10-11 in Topeka.

To celebrate the school’s creation, Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori will be in Topeka on Oct. 5. She will speak at a public forum on the emerging shape of the church and the changing face of ministry. She then will officiate at a service to mark the school’s opening and dedicate school facilities, and she will greet people at a public reception.

The school is named for Bishop Jackson Kemper, the first missionary bishop of the Episcopal Church, who was the organizing bishop when each of the four dioceses was founded in the 19th century. He also was committed to the value of local theological education for the growth and health of the Episcopal Church.
