Common Cause wants to be Gafcon Province

Common Cause is the loose coalition of disparate "Anglican" Groups in North America. This would include some historic sects such as the Reformed Episcopal Church as well as some recent ones such as The Anglican Mission in America (AMiA) and The Anglican Communion Network. They are asking the newly formed GAFCon primates council comprised of eight self selected primates, to recognise them as the legitimate Anglican province of North America. They also want Bishop Robert Duncan of Pittsburgh to be the Primate.

Dear Jim,

I'm not sure why you've placed 'Anglican' in scare quotes here unless you want to suggest that these groups are not Anglican. But, if 'Anglican' is to mean 'of, pertaining to, or derived from the Church of England, its worship, its Articles of Religion, or its traditional Christian teaching', then I must urge that these groups are far more Anglican than TEC, which, in its General Convention and hierarchy, has consistently denied the traditional Christian teaching of the Church of England and its Articles of Religion. On this, please refer to my Crimes and Heresies of the Episcopal Church available by clicking here.

As for the 8 primates of GAFcon, I must confess I don't know if they were "self-selected" or not, but if they were, 300 Anglican bishops and 1200 laity and other clergy representing every Anglican province and almost all orthodox Anglicans concurred in their appointment by attending GAFcon and producing its Jerusalem statement.

yours,
Marty Rice
