From Newark-
The Rev. Carlye J. Hughes will be consecrated the 11th
Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark on Saturday, September 22, at
11 AM, at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark. She was
elected on May 19, 2018 on the first ballot and will be the first woman
and first African-American to serve the Diocese of Newark as diocesan
bishop.
The Most Rev. Michael B. Curry, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church,
will officiate as Chief Consecrator. On the same day Hughes was elected
bishop, Presiding Bishop Curry made headlines around the world for his
sermon at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
