Detroit pastors keep the faith after getting the coronavirus

From Michigan-

Flowers also urged Detroiters to follow social distancing and not congregate outside the home for church or other gatherings.

His views are echoed by three Episcopal bishops in Michigan who wrote an open letter last week titled: "We believe in Jesus, science and staying home."

"As the Episcopal Bishops of the State of Michigan and as a people of faith, we follow the commandment Jesus gave us — to 'love our neighbors as ourselves,' "  wrote the Rt. Rev. Bonnie Perry, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan, the Rt. Rev. Whayne Hougland, Bishop of the Episcopal Dioceses of Eastern & Western Michigan, and the Rt. Rev. Rayford Ray, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Michigan. "Loving our neighbors these days in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic means setting limits: quarantining, refraining from traveling, physical distancing when in public, and closing down places of gathering where transmission is likely. This is how we love our neighbors — by working to slow the spread of this extremely contagious, life-threatening virus."

‘Royal Preacher’ coming to Upper Peninsula

From Northern Michigan-

The Episcopal Diocese of Northern Michigan, in partnership with the Northern Great Lakes Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, will welcome the Most Reverend Michael Curry, Presiding Bishop Primate of The Episcopal Church, to the Upper Peninsula on Sunday, Oct.13.

Beginning at 5 p.m. in the ballrooms of the Northern Center on the campus of Northern Michigan University, Curry will lead “Revival – The Way of Love UP North.”

Curry is known for his dynamic preaching and his love and enthusiasm for “The Jesus Movement,” which he describes as “following Jesus and growing a loving, liberating, life-giving relationship with God, with each other, and with creation.”

In addition, Bishop Curry made headlines in the spring of 2018 when he preached at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Megan Markle.

The event is family-friendly and open to everyone — Christians and seekers alike. It will feature charismatic preaching, offerings from local artists and musicians, personal testimony and storytelling, invitation to social action and intentional outreach with people who aren’t already engaged in a faith community.

Episcopal Church Leaders Call for Enbridge Line 5 Shutdown

From Northern Michigan-

The Episcopal Diocese of Northern Michigan is calling on Gov. Rick Snyder to shut down oil transport through Line 5 in the Straits of Mackinac unless the state can guarantee the controversial pipeline’s safety.

In a resolution Nov. 12 signed by Bishop Rayford J. Ray, the influential diocese, which represents Upper Peninsula, the church said protecting the integrity of creation and sustaining life guarantees the right of every human to safe, clean water. The resolution cited the threat of severe damage and loss from a Line 5 pipeline rupture as reasons for the governor to shut off the flow of oil through the Straits of Mackinac.
