Pagans demand return of church buildings 'stolen' 1,300 years ago

A group of pagans has written to the Archbishop of Canterbury demanding two churches to make amends for those it says were stolen 1,300 years ago.

The Odinist Fellowship, which represents 1,000 members of the pagan religion, wrote to the Church of England last month asking for two churches to be returned to make up for actions which took place during the Christianisation of England.

The letter, addressed directly to Archbishop Welby, said: "With a view to re-establishing better relations between the Odinist Fellowship and the Christian churches in England, and persuaded that a restitution of past wrongs is the best way to lay the foundations of improved relations, we wish you to be aware that the great majority of Odinists believe that honour requires the English church to issue a public apology for its former crimes against the Odinists."

Pagans Support Christian Church Violated by Hate Crime

In the wake of one of the most contentious U.S. presidential elections in history, a rising number of hate crimes are now being reported against people of color. When an extremely multicultural Episcopalian church near the nation’s capital was targeted, nearly 30 local Pagans showed up at the following Sunday service to make it clear that the victims do not stand alone.

According to reports, a banner advertising Spanish-language services at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior was slashed, and on the back was written the message: “Trump Nation. Whites Only.” That message was also scrawled on a wall, and a “Black Lives Matter” sign was painted over.

Local Pagan Sunny Simmons, who has worked in the church office for more than three years, coordinated the efforts to get a Pagan presence at the Sunday service following the incident. It was a gesture that was welcomed by church rector Rev. Dr. Robert Harvey, who knew that Simmons identified as Pagan from the day they met.

Orombi: End child sacrifice

Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi yesterday asked all parents to tell their children to write a petition to President Museveni to hammer home the urgency needed in checking child sacrifice.

At the Anglican service to celebrate Martyrs Day, Bishop Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu of Mityana, who was the main celebrant, asked that all activities of traditional herbalists and witches be stopped and challenged parliamentarians to take the lead in the fight against the vice.

“Those children who are sacrificed daily; remember their eyes are looking at you because they are crying,” he said.
“Let us ask Parliament to help have these witchdoctors chased away instead of debating laws that will protect them,” the bishop told the congregation.

Deputy Speaker Rebecca Kadaga was in the congregation, while Minister without Portfolio Dorothy Hyuha represented the government.

Archbishop Orombi said because very many children have lost their lives in suspected cases of ritual sacrifice, all parents had been asked to tell their children to write a petition to the President and him (Orombi).

“The trend of ungodliness has come to our country. We believe it is a social evil that must be stopped. Children should write their concerns and forward them to me and I will deliver their voices to the President,” he said.

Churches condemn ritual murder

TWO mainstream Christian churches yesterday condemned the rising cases of human sacrifice, promiscuity, social inequality and vulgarity in the media. The Anglican and Roman Catholic churches called on Ugandans to repent so as to stop “sliding deeper into sin”.

The remarks came yesterday as the churches marked Palm Sunday, the prelude to the Holy Week of Easter, which marks Jesus’ death and resurrection. The week also ends Lent, the 40-day fasting period.

The faithful thronged churches, waving palm fronds which signify Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem before he was crucified.

“When Jesus entered Jerusalem, he wept,” the Rev. Canon Stephen Kewaza said at Namirembe Cathedral. “He cried because he saw that people had not understood why He came.”

Kewaza said likewise, Jesus is angered when he sees the way Ugandans sacrifice children and the vulgarity on radio and newspapers.

At Rubaga Cathedral, the Rev. Fr. Achilles Mayanja condemned hypocrisy. “We frequent church activities; but when we encounter problems, we resort to witchcraft and deny our faith,” Mayanja said. What a shock, he added, that most perpetrators of child sacrifice, arson, divorce and gluttony are Christians.

“Let us reject what may prevent us from following Christ and resurrect with him this Easter holiday,” he counselled.

At Christ the King, parish priest Gerald Kalumba blamed moral breakdown for human sacrifice.

Dead rabbit is pinned to church door in what is thought to be pagan attack

POLICE are investigating after a dead rabbit was pinned to the front door of a church at Grantown in what some believed to be a pagan attack.

The gruesome discovery, with a note attached to its body, was made at Grantown Baptist Church in High Street, on February 25.

The congregation says the incident is the latest in a string of attacks, which has seen churchgoers arriving to find notes written in pink ink attached to the door.

Yesterday, a Northern Constabulary spokeswoman said a second Grantown church – St Columba’s Episcopal in South West High Street – had also been targeted.

She said there were “similarities” between notes left at both churches, but would not comment about whether pagans were responsible.

Chief Inspector Donald Henderson said: “We are taking this grossly offensive incident very seriously and are making every effort to detect and report the perpetrators of this despicable crime.”

Church deacon Bob Fishwick could not be contacted yesterday, but was reported as saying there had been a series of “pagan-style notes” over the past year.

He said the last note was a warning that they shouldn’t bring in the authorities.

The note said: “We are always watching you.”
