Church of England explains 'official position' on yoga ban

The Church of England has reacted officially to a  Devon yoga teacher being banned from giving classes in a local church hall for religious reasons.

Yoga teacher Atsuko Kato, 54, said she was told yoga was "not compatible with Christian beliefs".
Atsuko,  who has been teaching yoga for 25 years, was trying to book the church hall at Pilton in Barnstaple last week for a new class.

The Reverend Nigel Dilkes of Pilton Church said: "Pilton church hall is a church property and under the terms of the Trust Deed it is to be used for activities which are compatible with Christian faith."

St. Stephen’s Welcomes All to YogaMass Service

From Connecticut-

St. Stephen's Episcopal Church will hold a service on Saturday, March 16 ― open to the public ― which integrates yoga with Episcopal Church worship. It will be led by the Rev. Gena Davis, an ordained Episcopal priest and founder of YogaMass.  The service will begin at 5 p.m. in the church’s North Hall at 351 Main St.       
                                                                        
People of all levels of yoga experience are welcome.  Attendees are asked to bring a mat and water bottle. and loose clothing or yoga clothes are recommended.  Chairs will be provided for those who prefer chair yoga.

Church bans yoga classes in its hall after concerns of causing 'spiritual confusion'

The Anglican Church in Erskineville has told other churches in its Sydney Diocese to “review” yoga classes after it banned classes in its hall because the exercise practice may lead to “worshipping false gods”, The Inner West Courier reports.

Radio 4BC host Ben Davis told Sunrise he is venturing a guess that the Social Issues Committee is just trying to “justify their own existence”.

“They [the committee] had a look at the report, and I’ve got no idea but I’m going to tip that they might get paid and we’ve seen this too often in politics where they just try to justify their own existence,” he said.
