African mission project deemed success

It’s a tragedy: A child dies of malaria every 30 seconds in sub-Saharan Africa

Malaria is a disease that can cause permanent cognitive dysfunction, and even severe brain damage among its victims — especially children.

And mothers can even pass on the disease to their unborn child, according to information gathered by the Episcopal Church of America as part of its African mission campaign, Nets For Life.

Learning these and other grim statistics has been a key part of the mission project undertaken by St. Luke’s Episcopalian Church in Detroit Lakes during this year’s Lenten season.
