Clothes closets overwhelmed
So many people are getting clothes at local clothing banks that one of the facilities may soon run out.
Addie’s Attic, a free clothing bank in the basement of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, had clothes on its racks Friday but nothing in storage.
About 60 to 70 families come in looking for clothing on a typical Tuesday, say organizers, who fear running out of items to give away.
“Within a week, we could be out,” said manager Linda Stortz, of Pittston. “We have nothing left to put out.”
Stortz figures the number of people using Addie’s Attic, on Summer Street, has tripled in the last six months.
“A lot of people are out of jobs,” she said. “We’re getting three times as many people. It’s increasing so much we can’t seem to keep up with the demand.”
