‘Heeeeeere she comes!’ Church rides high tide

From Canada (You got to see this video)-

Not very often you get to see something you never saw before.

Like a church coming around the bend and floating down the river.

That’s the sight that brought hundreds of folks to Newport Landing on Thursday afternoon, from Poplar Grove, Mantua, Tonge Hill, Panuke Road — all over Hants County.

A former Anglican church will be the focal point of the Avondale Sky Winery when it opens this summer, but owners Lorraine Vassalo and Stewart Creaser had to move it from its home in Walton.

Trucking it wasn’t an option because of all the power lines crossing the road.

A good two hours before high tide at 3 p.m., people gathered on the wharf and along the shore, lunching on the offerings of the Avondale United Church Women, who sold sandwiches, coffee and pie.

"We should’ve had 50/50 tickets here," one of them said, surveying the crowd.

Competent-looking men in overalls, manning an excavator and a tandem dump truck, stood by in case they were needed to help get the church back on dry land.
